Lately, a Pakistani TV show called "Mayi Ri" has become really popular online. Directed by Meesam Naqvi and produced by Big Bang Entertainment, it airs every day at 7 p.m. Despite not being shown during prime time, it's doing really well and has grabbed the attention of a lot of viewers.
The story revolves around two cousins, Annie and Fakhir, played by Aina Asif and Samar Jafri. We get introduced to their big family in the beginning of the show, with parents, aunts, uncles, and cousins all playing a part in their lives.
The main problem starts when Annie and Fakhir are forced to get married at the young age of 15. Even before the show started, people were talking about how it would shed light on the tough realities of child marriage.
"Mayi Ri" aims to show the hardships faced by those who are victims of child marriage. It wants to make people understand the difficulties these young brides and grooms go through.

As the story unfolds, the main theme of the show starts to fade away. Annie and Fakhir's objections to their marriage are clear at first, but their relationship confuses viewers. About 10 episodes later, they get married, seemingly to explore the challenges of their young marriage. But instead of focusing on that, the story changes direction.
Their once difficult relationship turns into a loving one over time. What began as a stormy situation slowly turns into a love story. But unfortunately, the show starts to drift away from the important topic of child marriage. It gets tangled up in family drama and typical soap opera stuff. Annie and Fakhir's journey takes a backseat to other storylines that keep repeating.
Ironically, the show suggests that their marriage was a good decision after all, which undermines its original message about the problems of child marriage.

In a world full of bad things, Fakhir became Annie's strong support, and they had lots of sweet and touching moments together. The romantic story became the main focus, hiding the serious issues of teenage marriages. "Mayi Ri" accidentally turned into a typical teenage love story, making its original message about child marriage less clear.

Review websites like Something Haute and Galaxy Lollywood questioned whether "Mayi Ri" was showing child marriages in a positive light. But surprisingly, the audience seemed to really like the young couple's romance. They were more focused on their love story than the show's message about child marriage.
Just when things were getting really romantic, Annie's unexpected pregnancy shocked everyone. In just two episodes, Annie and Fakhir became parents, changing the story completely. Annie struggled to balance her studies and taking care of the house, especially when Fakhir started acting distant. This added a new layer of complexity to the story. Even though this sudden change in the story didn't always make sense for the characters, it brought back the original message of the show.

"Mayi Ri" is still ongoing, and its story is full of unknowns. To judge whether it promotes child marriage or not, we'll have to wait until it ends. But it's vital for TV dramas to talk about important social issues. Scripts should be carefully checked by experts to make sure they handle real-life problems sensitively and accurately.
In short, "Mayi Ri" has a complex story that has both intrigued and confused its viewers. Balancing between showing child marriages and a budding romance has been tough, leading to changes in what the show focuses on. We're not sure yet where the story will go or how it will handle the issue of child marriage. Having discussions about important issues in the media is crucial for making sure stories are told in a responsible way
